Adjunct Teacher

The Adjunct Pathway allows professionals or college faculty with specialized experience to teach in Mississippi classrooms without traditional certification. This three-year license is requested by a school district to help meet urgent staffing needs in high-demand subjects like math, science, foreign language, or the arts.

To qualify, you’ll need either:

Option 1: You’re a Licensed Professional with Industry Experience with:

  • At least 3 years of experience in a specialized field (like engineering, law, medicine, accounting, etc.)
  • A valid license in that field
  • A Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or universityAre completing or have completed a four-year education degree from a Mississippi institution that leads to licensure.

Option 2: You’re an Experienced College Instructor with:

  • A Master’s degree or higher
  • At least 3 years (or 6 full semesters) of college teaching experience in one of the approved subject areas

  • Languages

License Duration

It’s good for 3 years. After that, you can renew it if:

  • You earn a successful rating each year through Mississippi’s Educator and Administrator Professional Growth System
  • You meet all current licensure renewal requirements for your subject
  • You can only teach the subject listed on your license.
  • You can’t transfer your license between schools or districts without reapplying.
  • You can’t add additional subjects to this license.
  • If you want to keep teaching long-term, you’ll eventually need to complete a state-approved educator preparation program.
