Expert Citizen

If you hold a bachelor’s (or higher) and have deep knowledge in a specific subject, a Mississippi school district can recommend you to teach for one year while you work toward full licensure. This pathway is ideal for professionals who are ready to share what they know with students.

Anyone who holds a bachelor’s degree (or higher) and has significant expertise in the Career and Technical subject area they wish to teach. Applicants must be recommended by a Mississippi public school district.

  1. A high school diploma or higher and has significant expertise in the subject area they wish to teach.
  2. Must be requested by a Mississippi-based local school district or nonpublic school accredited or approved by the state using the local district’s request application process
  3. A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience
  4. Verification of valid Industry-recognized certification related to the subject area license is requested

Note: If candidate does not hold industry-recognized certification but does meet the required relevant experience criterion, the local school board shall document as part of their minutes, a detailed explanation for hiring an instructor that does not possess industry certification. The minutes shall be submitted as part of the completed licensure application packet.

Must be directly aligned with the applicant’s area of demonstrated expertise. Districts determine the appropriate subject.

License Duration

  • Five-year renewable license
  • It is renewable and can be upgraded to a higher class level with additional education or credentials
  • You can also add endorsements by completing approved coursework or passing additional subject assessments
  • The license is transferable between public districts and eligible nonpublic schools in Mississippi
  • The license is not transferable between Districts or eligible nonpublic schools.
  • The license can only be requested in one (1) endorsement area.
