Reciprocity

The Reciprocity Pathway allows licensed teachers from other states to obtain a Mississippi teaching license without additional coursework or testing, provided their license is standard and renewable. This option supports educator mobility and ensures that skilled teachers can continue their careers when relocating to Mississippi. It’s a fast-track for experienced teachers to enter the classroom.

You’re eligible if you:

  • Hold a valid, standard renewable license from another U.S. state

There’s no need to have completed a Mississippi-based teacher prep program or licensure exam. Your out-of-state credentials will be honored as long as they meet Mississippi’s standards.

All licensure areas are eligible under reciprocity, provided your current license is standard, renewable, and matches Mississippi’s endorsement areas.

You can also:

  • Add additional endorsements later through coursework, an approved program, or by passing a subject test

License Duration

  • Your Mississippi license will be valid for five years
  • It is renewable
  • It can be upgraded to a higher class based on your education or experience
  • The license is transferable between public school districts and eligible nonpublic schools in Mississippi
  • This pathway does not apply to non-renewable or temporary licenses from other states
  • The license you hold must be a standard renewable one
  • You’ll still need to meet Mississippi’s renewal requirements when your five-year term ends
